It would be interesting to carry on the late Bill Keen's list of existing DUKWs, their whereabouts & condition. If you own, or know of a DUKW please tell us about it.
I have owned 4 DUKWs & still have 2 of them.
My first came from Pounds Yard in Portsmouth & now resides in Utah Beach Museum as a static display.
Number 2 came from the French army & was absolutely original & mint. DUKW 353 20332. Sold in 2000 & became "Whacker Quacker 2" Location now Liverpool. Modified.
DUKW 353 11145 dod 07/1944 location France - under restoration
353 1604 dod 1943? location France - restoration or break.
We have one DUKW restored and the only original 353 in operation within the pacific region Chassis# 35311331 named Woody. we bought her from Chicago Il. Metro Ducks before. She is in excellent operational & vessel shape. Operating out of Saipan, CNMI 2016
ReplyDeleteI believe I own the sister duck to woody. Named discovery duck #353-22170 was also at one time a Chicago duck. I saw a YouTube video of woody duck and there were almost to many similarities to count! Discovery now has a happy home in Easton md and is under some repairs but will hopefully be seen the 2017 4th of July fireworks from the water!
